Your automatic night-out diary

Location tracking is the core feature of Breadcrumbs. The app uses iOS CLVisit monitoring to detect when you arrive at and depart from venues while your phone is in your pocket. This is a power-efficient system provided by iOS -- it is not GPS polling. Apple designed CLVisit specifically for this kind of background use, and the battery impact is typically under 1% per day. Without "Always" permission, the app cannot record your night out automatically.
All of your data is stored exclusively on your device. There are no cloud accounts, no servers collecting your personal information, and no syncing to third-party services. You own your data completely. If you ever want to start fresh, you can delete everything with one tap in Settings.
Yes. Premium users can create encrypted backups (.breadcrumbs files) that are protected by a password you choose. You can then import this backup on any device to restore your nights, visits, and all associated data.
Venues are detected via iOS CLVisit monitoring, which requires you to stay at a location for a few minutes before it registers as a visit. Very quick stops -- like briefly stepping into a shop -- may not be detected by the system. If you notice a missed visit, you can always add it manually from the night's timeline view.
Transaction matching is a Premium feature powered by Plaid. When you connect your bank, you authenticate directly with your financial institution through Plaid's secure interface. Breadcrumbs never sees or stores your bank credentials. Transactions are matched to venues by comparing the time and location of your visits with your spending activity.
No. All processing happens on your device. The only network requests Breadcrumbs makes are venue lookups, which send only GPS coordinates (not your identity) through our secure proxy server. There are no analytics SDKs, no tracking pixels, and no ads in the app.
Sharing is a Premium feature. Open a night and tap Share to generate a shareable package. The shared data is encrypted end-to-end -- the decryption key is embedded in the share link itself and never touches any server, so only the people you share with can view your night.
Breadcrumbs requires iOS 17 or later.
